Modular forms and relations between special derivations
Abstract:
In this talk we will discuss some work on a problem of Hain's centering around special derivations e_{2m}, m = 0, 1, 2, 3, ..., on the free Lie algebra on two generators L(a,b). Although the derivations e_{2m} can be easily and explicitly defined, the Lie algebraic relations between them are complicated and number theoretically interesting. In fact, the relations are parametrized by modular forms. We will also discuss a representation of derivations on L(a,b) using trees, which is due to Garoufalidis and Levine.
