The 4th Annual Graduate Student Probability Conference

April 30 - May 2, 2010

Duke University, Durham, North Carolina

Who can participate?

This conference is for graduate students and post-doctoral fellows interested in probability, and is organized by graduate students from the Mathematics Department at Duke University and the Department of Statistics and Operations Research at UNC-Chapel Hill.

How will the talks be structured?

There will be two keynote talks, one on Friday, April 30 and one on Saturday, May 1.  The keynote talks will each be approximately one hour in length.  All of the student talks will be 20 minutes and will run in parallel sessions each of the three days of the conference.

Will there be funding?

Yes, but most likely not enough to support everyone.  Please ask your own department for financial support first.  We plan to support travel expenses (up to $300) for as many students as possible.  When you fill out the registration form, indicate whether you want to apply for funding.  If you do receive funding, it can only be used toward travel expenses and can NOT be used toward lodging or food expenses.  Again, there is no guarantee of funding, but we will try our best to support you.  Please note that priority will be given to those who give a talk.

Will there be lodging?

We have arranged a room block at the Brookwood Inn, a hotel within walking distance of Duke University.  In addition, there is a free shuttle provided by the Brookwood Inn that can drop you off and pick you up directly in front of the Physics building where the conference will be held.  While we cannot reimburse any hotel expenses, a discounted price is available to all conference participants.  Please contact the Brookwood Inn directly in order to make a reservation.  When placing a reservation, ask for the "probability conference" room block in order to receive the discounted price.  For participants in great financial need, there may be a possibility of staying with a graduate student from Duke or UNC.  If you are in great financial need and would like to request lodging with a Duke/UNC graduate student, please indicate this in the comments section of the registration form.

Will meals be provided?

Breakfast will be provided each of the three mornings of the conference.  Additionally, lunch and dinner will be provided the Friday and Saturday of the conference.  There will also be snacks throughout each of the three days.  Please note that vegetarian options will be available at all meals, but we cannot guarantee vegan options.
