About me

I will be on sabbatical during the 2015-2016 academic year, partially funded by the Simons Foundation's Simons Fellows program. I will be based at Duke but will spend extended periods in Sweden (see below) and Princeton; please see my Travel schedule page for more information.

In Fall 2015, I am an organizer for the program “Symplectic Geometry and Topology” at the Institut Mittag-Leffler in Sweden.

Solutions to the 2014 Putnam competition are now available. Here's a nice story about Duke's Putnam program from Duke Magazine (January-February 2010).

In the past, a panel of people at Duke, including me, have held Math Jam chats, hosted by Art of Problem Solving, to discuss Duke's undergraduate program (especially in math) with prospective students. We will not be holding a Math Jam this year (2014) but there's lots of information in the transcripts from our previous chats: November 2013; October 2012; October 2011; November 2010.

Here are the web pages for the Duke-UNC Topology Seminar and the Topology Pre-Seminar.

I am an editor for the journal Quantum Topology. Please send me a message if you are interested in submitting an article (especially in symplectic and contact topology).
