Elizabeth Robins Vanhook
(29 December 1840 - 20 [month?] 1882)
married Larkin J. Vanhook
(26 March 1843 - 21 March 1918) on 26 August 1862.
They had seven children; the sixth and
seventh died as infants.
Their second child, Mary Frances Vanhook
(2 March 1867 - 16 May 1946),
married Charles Scott (7 October 1837 - 16 February 1910)
on 12 July 1885.
Mary Frances Vanhook and
Charles Scott were the parents of
Layton's maternal grandfather,
Charles Larkin Scott
(24 November 1893 - 1 November 1980).
Owing to the youthful appearance of Elizabeth
in this hand-tinted photograph and to the single small child
in her arms, it is reasonable to assume that the
child is her first, Lee Nick Vanhook
(7 June 1864 - March 1936).
Elizabeth died of tuberculosis at age 41.
