Teaching
This Fall (2002), I am teaching Math 103X (Honors Intermediate
Calculus) and Math 123S (Geometry).
You can find further information about my schedule
by looking here and you can always consult
The Online Course Catalog for other course information.
Research
I'm interested in the geometry of partial differential
equations (as always), but, more specifically, I have been thinking about
conservation laws for PDE, Finsler geometry, holonomy, and trying to learn
some more about Seiberg-Witten invariants and symplectic geometry.
You can retrieve .dvi files of any of my
recent publications and preprints.
As time permits, I am compiling notes on my
earlier publications,
including errata, comments, and pointers to further work in the
area since the appearance of the work in question.
Editorship
- I am on the editorial board of
Differential Geometry and Its Applications.
- I'm on the editorial board of the Duke Mathematical Journal,
but please
don't submit manuscripts directly to me. Instead, follow the
instructions inside the front cover of a recent issue of the DMJ. For
further information, you can send email to
the DMJ office.
Council of the AMS
I currently serve on the Executive Council of the AMS.
My term expires on 31 January 2003.
I am the chair of CPUB, the AMS Committee on Publications.
Vietnam Education Foundation
I serve on the Board of the Vietnam Education Foundation
(a web link will be forthcoming as soon as the page is up)
and my term expires in 2005.
Chamber Arts Society
I am the director of the Chamber Arts Society of Durham.
Our 2002-3 season schedule is as follows:
- 14 September Pearlman, Schmidt, Bailey Trio
- 28 September Takacs Quartet
- 16 November Ysaye String Quartet and Paris Piano Trio
- 25 January Tokyo String Quartet
- 08 March Emerson String Quartet
- 29 March Leipzig String Quartet
All concerts begin at 8 PM.
All of the concerts other than the Tokyo will be in Reynolds
Theater in the Bryan Center on Duke's West Campus. The Tokyo
will play in Page Auditorium (also on Duke's West Campus).
The season tickets are usually sold out by the first
concert. However, it is usually possible to buy a limited
number of individual tickets at the door on the night of the
concert.
