Stone Mountain Camping Trip

No, this was not the sliding rock. The Woofers trip to Stone Mountain was not only a great trip to the mountains, but it was also an experiment in increasing the Troop's weekend operational range. To get to Stone Mountain before the gate closed, the boys loaded the bus on Thursday evening, arrived earlier than usual Friday afternoon, and made the three-hour drive to Stone Mountain in time to set up camp before dark. And as these pictures will show, the trip was worth the extra effort.
...watching the photographer slip down the lower falls.

The boys rode the trusty Troop 412 bus to the trail head, where they laid out careful plans for their day hike.
Who has the keys? What is this green line?

The boys enjoyed a spectacular hike over the top of Stone Mountain... Is this road really made out of yellow brick?
Wait for the Scoutmaster! ...although some groups were slower than others.

One of the scenic rewards of the hike was the view of the falls from this vantage point. It was from near here that we could see the falls shown at the top of the page.
Reversible hat.

Any good hike warrants a good rest!

Who forgot to pack the bathing suits? The highlight of the trip was sliding rock. The boys donned plastic bags and slid to their hearts content! Slip slidin' away now...
Look out below! Splish, splash, I was takin' a bath... I think I'm stuck!
And now for the upright backwards slide!
