Water Activities
Raven Knob, 1999

There are a number of different kinds of water activities at Raven Knob, and all of them went over well with the boys. The camp has training that ranges from beginning swimming to BSA lifeguard training and includes various watercraft activitites.

What flavor lifesaver is this? On the left you see part of the training in the Raven Scout Program, which covers many of the requirements for Tenderfoot. On the right is the check-in board at the waterfront. The camp was very strict about enforcing the "buddy system" and checking in and out with the tags you see on the board. The tag indicated the skill level of the swimmer. Mine's here somewhere.

Keeping up with clothes and craft supplies during the swimming session could be a challenge, but our boys mananaged. The watercraft activities included sailboats, canoes, and kayaks. Swimming with all this takes practice. Does he know he's leaning against the starboard gunwale?

On "clothes inflation day" the boys learn a standard water-survival technique. It's fun, but it's not easy. Here you see two of our boys passing the test.
Quick, I need that shirt! It really works!
