A Weekend at the National Guard Armory

Andrew, are you sure you know how to fly this thing?
Troop 412 spent the weekend of February 18-20, 2000, in the National Guard Armory at the RDU airport. In the picture above you see the troop shortly after they had flown over from the Church to the airport in an Apache helicopter...or did they ride the bus over and then pose by the helicopter?

Felipe, come back! The boys were able to explore all kinds of equipment, from transport trucks to tactical golf carts. Tod's work at the armory sure looks difficult.

Cooking on industrial-size grills was easier than cooking over the usual campfires. And cleanup with sinks and tap water was almost fun.
300 million hamburgers sold nationwide. Don't tell our moms we know how to wash dishes.

After receiving instructions from Tod, the boys fired M16 rifles in the shooting range--under very close supervision. In this picture you see the boys cleaning rifles at the conclusion of the firing. How do you
get your finger out of the barrel?

This seemed easier in practice. The younger scouts got a chance to conduct a flag ceremony with a large flag and a real flagpole.

Finally, a Troop 412 trip is not complete without a good prank. During the night on Saturday, some backpacks were "lifted." No one knows for sure who the perpetrators were, and this dim, surreptiously taken photo is the only remaining evidence of the event. How'd they get the
rope up there?
