MAWAT Fall 2000 Camporee
West Point on the Eno

Troop 412 organized into two patrols for the Fall 2000 MAWAT camporee. We are happy to report that our two patrols placed first and second in the competition for the weekend. One of the reasons for their fine showing was the outstanding campsite set up by the boys. Indeed some camporee officials were surprised that Troop 412 had time to set up their gateway, pack rack, and cleaning stations--as well as the tarp and tents. In the pictures below you see the boys loading the supplies they will need for the structures at their campsite.
Stand back! I'll get that door open. Why don't we poll the audience?

After the gateway was constructed and they set up the tents, the boys raised the American flag and the Troop flag.

Should we put the flag at the bottom...
...or should we put it at the top?

Not to be confused with a pack rat. Other useful campsite structures built by the boys were a backpack rack and a water tower. Now let's use hollowed-out bamboo to pipe the water to the cleaning area.

Troop 412 at formation Saturday morning
A fine troop, indeed.

During the day Saturday the boys participated in pioneering activities. Trestle building was expecially fun for them, because they got to test their work after they finished.

Would you untie my foot, please?
Not bad knots.

The log-pull gave the boys a chance to test both their timber hitches and their strength. That vertical is going to be tough. My log! No, it's my log!

Is it still alive? Here you see some scenes of the campsite acitivity. The boys cheerfully did their cooking, cleaning, and other jobs. Especially popular was the chair-warming duty. Hey, it's heavier with water in it.
We forgot the automatic dishwasher. Does Tod know I'm sitting in his chair?

On the last morning Troop 412 volunteered to raise the flags. Even though the weather had turned cold and rainy, the Woofers lookes as sharp as ever.
Who has the bugle?
