Personal

Sorry to disappoint, but this 'Personal' will not be so incredibly personal, but a insight into some things that I think are cool, mathematically and not. Please enjoy all links, jokes posted, and recognize that the opinions expressed on this page are that of Aubrey HB alone and in no way reflect the views and opinions of the Duke Math Department, Mathematics in general, or anyone affiliated with the study of science, movies, and art.

Found on the personal page of my former office mate, Michael Gratton, can you get a PhD in this:   "Virtual Math Grad School Choose Your Own Adventure Game"?

Some of my former students would argue that there is no practicality for understanding math at a high enough level. Well, Plasma Pong is one of the very many counterexamples to that theory. This is a quite remarkable spin-off game from the original old school game of Pong, with a complete, mathematically based intelligence that simulates the ball moving through a fluid. The higher levels get, the mass of the ball reduces and is more prone to influences of its atmosphere.

I'm afraid that many of these hit too close to home:  http://xkcd.com/
