Requirments and Instructions for Viewing the Lectures
Requirements:
-
A 28.8 kbps or higher connection to the Internet is required. Of course,
you get better quality video and smoother playback with higher connection.
At 28.8 or lower, you can only get the audio stream along with the web
page slides.
-
The realplayer from Progressive Networks
is also required; you need to install the realplayer first before
you can view the lectures.
-
You are using a javascript-enabled browser, like netscape 4.x or internet
explorer 4.x.
Instructions:
To start, click on one of the realplayer buttons near the top of your
browser. The realplayer window will pop up on your screen, and the appropriate
web page will be loaded automatically when necessary during the lecture.
Note that if you find that the slide is taking too long time to download
just hit the pause button on the realplayer. When the slide has loaded
hit pause again. You can also use the slider bar on the realplayer
to advance through the presentation to a particular topic, and the web
page appropriate for the audio/video will be loaded.
To aid users with slow connection, all the slides will be downloaded
from the web server at once. So it's a good idea to load the web page, then
wait for the page to finish downloding, before playing the video/audio.
Click on the Duke logo to go back to the beginning of the lecture. Click on
the pictures on the left side of your browser to see the slides not displayed
on the screen.
The slide will be displayed with a pink border if your browser window is
too narrow to display the slide at its true size. Click within the pink border
to see the slide at its true size.
Click on the "Print All" link near the bottom of the left-lower frame to
list all the slides in a new window suitable for printing.
