Math 227 - Numerical methods for partial
differential equations, II (Spring 2003)
Instructor
John Trangenstein
Description
This course will discuss finite difference methods for parabolic
equations, including operator splitting in multiple dimensions.
Afterward, it will discuss iterative linear algebra, including
incomplete factorization, conjugate gradients and related algorithms,
nonlinear krylov algorithms, and multigrid.
Then the course will examine elliptic boundary value problems and
finite element methods.
If time permits, the course will finish with finite element methods
for parabolic and hyperbolic problems.
Math 226 is useful for this course, but not essential.
This course is not directly a prerequisite for any other listed course
however it is useful for essentially all topics in applied math.
