Description
Calabi-Yau manifolds and their use in mathematical physics. Specific
topics will include: holonomy of Riemannian manifolds,
statement of Yau's theorem,
complex projective varieties, Kähler geomtry,
constructions of varieties with trivial canonical bundle,
period maps, linear and non-linear sigma models, Calabi-Yau compactifications
in string theory.
Prerequisites
No formal prerequisites but will draw on graduate level algebra, geometry,
topology, and analysis.
Meeting Time
The meeting time will be set at the beginning of the semester, based on
the schedules of the students and the instructor.
