Placement Advice
To Contact the Math SFI
for Placement Advice:
- First, please make sure to have read all of the discussion on the Placement Page
that might be relevant to your situation. The placement page
should allow most students to determine their own proper placement.
- Next, make sure that you have read the responses to all of the potentially relevant Placement FAQ's.
- If your question is about the enrollment process (and
you already know the course that you want to take) make sure to have
read carefully the Enrollment Policies Page.
- Now make sure to consider the following other possible sources of help:
- If you have a question about getting an exemption from
taking a particular math course that is required for one of your
intended majors or minors, you must ask the DUS in that
department. The Mathematics Department does not arbitrate
requirements for majors in other departments.
- If you are trying to get pre-matriculation credit for a
course that you have already taken elsewhere, that process begins by
contacting the Registrar's Office, as per the discussion on PMC's at the Trinity College page on AP, IPC, and PMC.
- If you are still not sure what would be the right
course for you to enroll in, or if you have a different placement
question, please copy/paste the following questions into an email to
"sfi@math.duke.edu", and make sure to insert your answers; the SFI will
need this information to be able to respond to your question. (If
you need to reply to the SFI's response, please leave this information
in the reply for convenient reference.)
