This applet is a modification of one originally created by Kyle Siegrist. Go to the web site Virtual Laboratories in Probability and Statistics to see the original applet -- and many others illustrating concepts in both probability and statistics.

Instructions

Each time you click on Step, you simulate a roll of the two dice. The applet shows the top faces of the two dice and records the sum of the two values shown. The fraction of the sums equalling each value is shown in the histogram. The blue framework shows the probability assigned to each sum.

  1. Step through 20 rolls and record the fractions of the sums that equaled each value between 2 and 12. These fractions are listed in the column headed by data).

  2. Reset the applet. Now use the Run button to generate 10 sets of 10 rolls. Record the fractions of the sums that equaled each value between 2 and 12.

  3. Set the update frequency to be 100 and the stop frequency to be 100. Use the Run button to generate 10 sets of 100 rolls. Record the fractions of the sums that equaled each value between 2 and 12.

  4.

When you are finished, close the applet window and return to Part 2 of the module.
