Printing from the Wireless Network

The following printer are available :

lw0 (HP Laserjet 4250 in Room 102) Use HP Laserjet 5si/5Si MX PS driver
lw1 (Xerox 4400DT in Room 102) Win2k/XP Driver
lw3 (HP Laserjet 4240 in Room 274J) Use HP Laserjet 5si/5Si MX PS driver
lw4 (HP Laserjet 4240 in Room 029) Use HP Laserjet 5si/5Si MX PS driver
lw6 (HP Laserjet 4250 in Room 223) Use HP Laserjet 5si/5Si MX PS driver

If you are using Windows XP or Windows Vista, please download and install the drivers for the appropriate printer before trying to add the printer.  Make a note of where the files are stored so that you can point to that driver during installation.

WinXP/Vista : To add an IPP (Internet Printing Protocol) Printer

  1. In Control Panel, click on Printers and Faxes.
  2. Under Printer Tasks, click Add a printer to open the Add Printer Wizard, and then click Next.
  3. Choose to add A Network Printer, or a printer attached to another computer and then click Next.
  4. Click Connect to a printer on the internet or on a home or office network and enter for the URL :
    • http://printhost.math.duke.edu:631/printers/NAME
  5. Click Next and follow the instructions on the screen to finish installing the TCP/IP printer.

MacOS X: To add an IPP Printer

  1. Go to the Preferences Panel and click on Printing.
  2. Click on the + button to add a new printer.
  3. Select that you wish to add an IPP Printer.
  4. Enter printhost.math.duke.edu as the server for the printer.
  5. Enter /printers/NAME for the queue substituting lw0 -> lw6 for NAME.
  6. Choose the appropriate printer driver from the list according to the table above.

Printing Two Sided to Duplex Capable Printers under WinXP

By default, most printer drivers are shipped with duplex printing disabled. To enable it follow these steps :
  1. In Control Panel, click Printer and Faxes
  2. Double click on the the printer you wish to configure
  3. In the menu Printer, click on Properties, then select the Device Settings tab
  4. If the printer driver supports duplex, there is an option under Installable Devices labeled something like Duplex Unit. Make sure that option is set to Installed
  5. Click Ok to apply the changes.
  6. Now when your print dialog comes up when you print a job, you can select Preferences and specify double sided printing, or you can make double sided the default by going back through the steps above to bring up the printer configuration dialog and looking in the Options tab for the printer.
