Biography
Profesor Barbara
Lee Keyfitz was born and raised in Canada by Nathan
and Beatrice Keyfitz. She got her undergraduate degree from the University
of Toronto. Since then she has received her pH.D in mathematics and is
currently a professor at the University of Houston. This past year she
taught first semester calculus and linear algebra. She has also been named
a John and Rebecca Moores University Scholar for her outstanding research
in the field of nonlinear partial differential equations. She is also Vice
President for Programs in the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics
(SIAM) as well as a committee member of the AMS-IMS-SIAM Summer Research
Conferences in the Mathematical Sciences Selection Committee.
Profesor Keyfitz also has a life outside of her research.
She is married and has two children. Her son, Alex is a sophomore in college,
while her daughter graduated from college last May with a degree in computer
science. She is now a systems administrator at the Harvard Smithsonian Observatory in Cambridge, MA.
