Lisette dePillis is an associate professor and the first woman in the mathematics department at Harvey Mudd College.   Before gaining this position, she graduated from UCLA with a major in mathematics and computer science.  While researching in Norway, she met her husband with whom she now has two children , ages seven and two-and-a-half.  After completing her research she returned to UCLA, where she obtained a master's degree and PhD.   Her first child was born the day after she submitted her thesis.  Her second child was born during her professorship at HMC.  She was the first professor to have a baby during the school year.  Dr. dePillis won the Maria Goeppert-Mayer Distinguished Scholar Award, which has allowed her to do research at the Argonne National Laboratory this year.     Her talks and publications range in topic from "A Mathematical Tumor Model with Immune Resistance and Drug Therapy: An Optimal Control Approach" to "Is Being a Scientist Ladylike?"
